About the role:

Emerald Grain has an exciting opportunity for right person to join our team in a full-time position.   During the Harvest Period the position will work as a Grain Quality Officer and will oversee grain quality at regional receival sites in NSW and Victoria working closely with Site staff.  During the remainder of the year, the role will be based at Melbourne Port Terminal performing a variety of duties including working in the terminal operations team when required.

The main focus of the role of Grain Quality Officer will be on grain quality namely, grain classification, collecting and processing samples, identifying quality issues, raising non-conformances in systems and advising rectifications, assisting with the calibration of sampling equipment and conducting sample stand audits.

The Terminal operations component of the role includes operational tasks relating to the safe and efficient receival of grain via road and rail, loading of bulk vessels and the out-turning of grain via containers.  This is a physical role where you can be expected to lift, climb and undertake some manual handling tasks. You will also be expected to do general housekeeping and complete paperwork and data entry.

The successful candidate must be able to work on day, afternoon or night shifts, including working overtime, and also be able to work on weekends when required.  The role also will require the incumbent to travel and work in country locations during the harvest period from approximately October to mid-December.  There will also be a requirement to travel and work at country sites outside of harvest at times throughout the year.

  • Strong approach to Safety
  • Grain classification experience
  • Experience working in the grain industry or similar manufacturing/materials handling environment, though we are open-minded to a range of experiences
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Excellent team work skills and ‘can do’, flexible attitude
  • Well-developed problem solving skills
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivated with a desire to learn skills
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office
  • drivers’ license

Non-essential Skills and Experience but highly regarded:

  • Experience in a laboratory or other quality control setting
  • Control room operator/process plant operational experience
  • Forklift license
  • Medium rigid licence
  • Authorised Officer for Australian Plant exports
  • MSIC certification
  • Confined space training
  • High risk licences including EWP, CN (non-slewing crane licence)
  • Work at heights and confined space tickets
