• Full time position within the Grain industry

About the role

Reporting to the General Manager of Operations, you will be working in a stand-alone role providing support to the business. You will need to have the ability to engage and consult with stakeholders across our Supply Chain Operations team which includes our Export Terminal in the Port of Melbourne, up country receival sites and head office.

The role is responsible for the management and continuous improvement of Emerald Grain’s Safety Management System, programs and safety culture Initiatives. This position will coordinate with the Human Resources Team on SHE training requirements as the subject matter expert.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement the HSE Strategic Plan, ensuring it is reviewed annually with the Emerald Executive Team. Progress against plan is measured through audits and inspections according to schedules.
  • Management and maintenance of Emerald Grain’s Safety Management System
  • Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices
  • Develop, implement and influence continuous improvement approaches for HSE practices.
  • Advise within the field of HSE when Emerald Grain is liaising with third party regulatory agencies and/or authorities
  • Support Line Manager’s in representing the company to regulators
  • Conduct regular SHE audits and site inspections to ensure risks to the health and safety of employees are assessed, prioritised, and appropriately eliminated or controlled
  • Provide technical advice, coaching, and guidance to managers and employees on safety initiatives and safe work practices
  • Conduct incident and near miss investigations and ensure recommendations are implemented or actioned within agreed timeframes.
  • Maintain and analysis of incident and injury management information
  • Prepare regular written reports, results, and updates to the Executive Team

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Good knowledge and demonstrated experience of WHS and Environmental legislation in bulk commodity , supply chain, manufacturing, mining, or construction environments.
  • Proven capability in managing health, safety, and environment at a state or national level. Working knowledge of computer systems and electronic HSE databases and platforms.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills to effectively influence and persuade various audiences including senior management, employees, contractors and government agencies.
  • Ability to think quickly to be able to resolve challenges with little or no direction from others
  • Ability to interpret a variety of legal, industry standards, engineering designs and instructions in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule format
    Tertiary qualifications in Safety, Engineering, or related technical field highly desirable.
  • A valid Driver’s Licence is essential as travel to country sites will be expected.
  • Physical capacity to drive and attend all Emerald and Affiliate locations, including our sites in the NSW Riverina district as well as to Northern Victoria on a regular basis
  • Capacity to wear and safely use all types of PPE including respiratory protection up to and including SCBA. Physical capacity, and comfortable to work at highs, climb stairs, ladders, working in tunnels and silos
